Rhododendron Britannia

The plate for this etching took two months to complete, is taxonomically accurate in every detail and drawn from living samples cultivated by the artist. The finished print, which has four spit-bite aquatints on the petals and two on the leaves is rendered at the same size as the living plant on which it was based. On printing, the plate is individually inked in six colours and once dried the hand colouring of the stamen, stigma, style and corolla of some petals takes place.
